Tick Privacy Policy
Tick is an offline speedcubing timer. It does not create accounts, show ads,
or include the Android INTERNET permission. Tick does not send
your solves, settings, or device identifiers to us or to any third party.
What Tick stores on your device
Solve times, scrambles, penalties, notes, tags, sessions, and settings are
stored locally with Room and DataStore. Android Auto Backup and
device-to-device backup are turned off (android:allowBackup="false").
Uninstalling Tick or clearing its app data deletes this information.
Microphone
Optional. Used only when you turn on Stackmat input so Tick can decode the Speed Stacks timer signal from the 3.5 mm audio jack. Audio is processed on the device and is not recorded to files or uploaded.
Bluetooth
Optional. Used only to scan for and connect to smart cubes over Bluetooth Low Energy. Cube traffic stays on the device. Tick does not use Bluetooth for advertising or analytics.
Location
Tick does not read GPS or your location. On Android 11 and below, Android requires the fine location permission in order to scan for BLE devices. Tick requests that permission only so it can find smart cubes. On Android 12 and above it uses Bluetooth scan/connect permissions instead, with scan marked as never used for location.
Export and import
JSON backups and CSV exports are created only when you choose Export in Settings. Files are written where you pick on the device (or in your files app). Tick does not upload those files. Import and restore also stay local.
What Tick does not collect
- No accounts, email addresses, or phone numbers
- No advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs
- No sale or sharing of personal information
- No network traffic from the app itself
Opening this policy from Settings uses your browser, not Tick’s process.
Children
Tick is a general-audience timer. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. There is no online service to collect it.
Source and license
Tick is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0. Official scrambles come from TNoodle 0.19.2, also GPL-3.0. Source: github.com/qwakqwakqwak/Tick.
